Live override

CanvasPro provides two operator-driven mechanisms for interrupting scheduled content with a live cue: Force Live and Domination.

This guide explains both, and when to use each.

Force Live

Force Live takes over a channel with a chosen scene or queue, overriding the normal condition-driven schedule. Use this for sponsor reads, replays, ad breaks and emergency announcements.

  • Force Live a scene sends a specific scene to the channel, ignoring most error conditions. Useful for getting something on screen fast.
  • Force Live a queue sends a queue. The system finds and plays the first valid item in the queue.

When you stop the Force Live, the channel returns to its scheduled content.

Force Live is operated from the On Air page. The Channels page is for authoring; On Air is for operating.

Domination

Domination is a per-queue mode that controls how new content takes over. Choose one of two modes for a queue:

  • Interrupt the current item: the queue cuts to the new item immediately.
  • Play next: the queue lets the current item finish, then plays the new item.

You can override an interrupt domination if one is already running. When a domination finishes, the system returns to the previously playing item.

Domination is configured on the queue itself, on the Channels page.

Choosing between them

Situation Use
One-off live moment, operator-triggered Force Live
A queue that should always interrupt when valid Domination
Sports replay, sponsor read, emergency announcement Force Live
App-driven (Sports, VisionAI) takeovers Domination

Trigger sources

Both Force Live and the queues that use Domination can be triggered from:

  • The On Air UI directly (operator press)
  • An external system through OSC or HTTP, bound to the queue or scene
  • A condition becoming valid (Domination only)

After the override

When Force Live ends, the schedule resumes from whatever is currently valid under its conditions.

When a Domination ends, the system returns to the item that was playing immediately before the domination interrupted.
