Network requirements¶
For basic operation, CanvasPro One needs one inbound port on the local network and one outbound connection to the internet. CanvasPro Cloud and NDI each need a few more, but only when they are in use.
Inbound, from the local network¶
| Port | Protocol | Used for | Needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| 33333 | TCP (HTTPS) | The CanvasPro web interface, at https://<machine-address>:33333. Other CanvasPro machines connect on this port too. |
Always |
| 8555 | UDP | Live previews in the web interface, sent over WebRTC. | Recommended |
Port 33333 is the only port CanvasPro needs for basic operation. When port 8555 is blocked, live previews still work, but they fall back to a slower stream carried over port 33333. The Windows installer adds a firewall rule for port 8555 automatically.
NDI¶
NDI sources and outputs use NDI's own ports, which only need to be open when NDI is in use. The main ones are below. The full list is in NDI's network ports documentation.
| Port | Protocol | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| 5353 | UDP | Finding NDI sources on the local network (mDNS) |
| 5959 | TCP | NDI Discovery Server, when the network uses one |
| 5960 and up | TCP and UDP | Looking up sources, and the NDI streams themselves |
| 6960 and up | TCP and UDP | Receiving streams over multi-TCP or UDP |
| 7960 and up | TCP and UDP | Sending streams over multi-TCP, unicast UDP or multicast UDP |
mDNS does not cross subnets. To use NDI sources from another subnet, run an NDI Discovery Server and point each machine at it.
Outbound, to the internet¶
Every outbound connection uses TCP port 443. CanvasPro needs no inbound access from the internet.
| Address | Used for | Needed |
|---|---|---|
licensing.digitalmedia.tech |
Licence activation, the daily licence check and device pairing | Always |
*.canvaspro.tech |
CanvasPro Cloud: content, schedules and playback status | With CanvasPro Cloud |
*.iot.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com |
CanvasPro Cloud: the live connection that delivers changes straight away (MQTT over TLS) | With CanvasPro Cloud |
*.amazonaws.com |
CanvasPro Cloud: media downloads from Amazon S3 | With CanvasPro Cloud |
Running without an internet connection¶
CanvasPro checks its licence once a day. If licensing.digitalmedia.tech cannot be reached, CanvasPro keeps running on its stored licence for 7 days after the last successful check. A licence issued for offline use does not need this connection at all.
Optional connections¶
- Error reporting. When error reporting is turned on, CanvasPro sends crash reports to
*.ingest.de.sentry.io. Error reporting is off by default. - Dropbox. Importing media from Dropbox connects to Dropbox's servers.
